Ok here goes a good one from SEYC (Southeast Youth Conference) camp last week. First I took like 14 kids down to camp in Alabama, this was only a 12 hour trip.

At the camp is this nice mountain that everyone loves to climb. I climbed it on Tuesday and it was just beautiful. On Friday for the morning rally everyone at camp climbed the mountain to the midway point. We had a really nice rally and when it was over several of the kids wanted to go to the top. Of course I had so much fun climbing this thing I wanted to do it again, so I took the kids up to the top. Once we get up to the top one of the girls (probably around 13 or 14) passed out from heat exhaustion. Since I was an EMT I got here laid down in the shade on the rocks and I was sitting just to the left of her on top of the rock. A nurse was on his way up with some more water and electrolytes. When he got to the top he sat at my feet where he started taking her pulse. About 15 minutes later he took her pulse again and saw a very nice coiled Rattle snake 6 inches behind my leg. Of course he motioned me up but did not say there was anything wrong, so what do I do??? I take a step back to stand up putting my leg about 2 inches in front of this crazy thing. Believe it or not the snake never rattled or tried to stick me. Can you say THANK GOD?!? Never been that close to a Rattler before. After we disposed of it the snake had 10 rattles and a button and full of venom.

Wow! Just back from hiking in Utah... My oldest was sure we'd run into a rattler on some of our climbs, but I'm thankful to say the only one we saw was a preserved and "on display" at a visitor center! Glad you didn't become the patient!

Holy crap! I'm not afraid of snakes but being that close to the poisonous kind would freak the hell out of me! SO glad you didn't get bitten.
