Hello Karen. So you have been to Dubrovnik? The first time I ever went abroad in 1970 I was an apprentice hippie and I had decided to go on the big one hitch hiking to Kathmandu. I had been saving all my pennies and had about £250. I had a few friends in Norway so I thought I would give them a visit on my way! Until I've So I caught the ferry from Newcastle to Bergen and spent a very expensive few weeks in Norway before deciding I had better set off for Kathmandu. I got as far as Dubrovnik and I only had £10 left. I remember thinking how strange the town was, so old and such well preserved buildings. Plenty of cobbles, definitely not wheelchair friendly! Until I finished up there I had never heard of the place. The weather was ridiculously hot and I would have felt incredibly good if I had had a little more money! I came to the decision I would have to make an attempt to get home. It had taken me three days to hitchhike down the coast Road of Yugoslavia and I didn't fancy hitchhiking back again. I went to the airport and found that it costs less than five pounds to get an internal flight from Dubrovnik to Lubyanka. It was the first time I had flown and the plane looked like it had been around since the end of the Second World War and unless my memory is deceiving me I'm sure there were a few goats in the passenger area. When I left Dubrovnik the temperature was about 100°F and I was dressed accordingly. When we arrived in Ljubljana there was a thunderstorm. I was ever so glad when we were back on the ground! We had to walk for a least a quarter of a mile in the torrential rain with me in my little T-shirt. I did manage to get home eventually. That is the reason I am able to write to you now! Charlie. I think you will have to send me permission to write to you in your inbox. I can send this message to you privately.
