(this post is from last month but I think it might catch some attention here too)

Yesterday, while lunching with a friend, I received a cryptic text message on my cell phone from another friend (let’s call her “B”). I read the four words no one wants to read. “We need to talk”. I hate those words. They usually mean something is going to happen and it may not have a good ending.

I replied to “B” with another text message. Three or four texts later, we settled that we would talk around 9pm. Now, I am wracking my brain, trying to think what might have happened, did I say something wrong.

Now – a little background on “B”. I adore her as she is really funny and goofy. We have been friends for about five yeas as our girls have shared a lot of the same activities. She may not be the smartest person, in fact, she refers to herself as “a blonde”. She is married to the nicest guy and they have three beautiful children (girl 12, girl 8, boy 6). They look like a family you’d see in a Disney catalog, all wearing the same style pajamas, with their two Golden Retrievers. Now, Girl 12 plays/hangs with Eldest (who is almost 12) and Girl 8 plays with Youngest who is also 8. The two 8 year olds are constantly together, playing and acting silly and having a great time. The older girls haven’t had too much time to hang out lately as they both have crazy (and completely different) schedules. They are also complete opposites – Girl is tall and blonde and into gymnastics and softball while Youngest is more petite with brown hair and completely into horses/riding, high honor roll, Girl Scouts, and volleyball.

So, I text “B” at 830pm, while Eldest is in the shower and Youngest is heading off to bed. According to “B”, when she texts back, she is having a hectic night and could we meet for drinks. Ohhh boy – what the heck does she need to say to me where she needs a drink?! We plan on meeting at 930pm at a local bar/restaurant. I arrive on time and find her sitting at a table with a glass of wine. As soon as I sit down next to her, a waitress pops up and takes my order (glass of zin please!) I figured I might need a drink myself since I was unsure of what was going to happen.

We exchanged pleasantries and then she just came out with it. She wanted to talk about the text. Now, this text message was discovered by myself in one of Eldest's friend's cell phone. Let's call her Friend 12. Before you think I was snooping, let me explain. About two weeks ago, Friend 12's Mom and I were discussing text messaging and just how out of control is it getting with a lot of girls. Eldest does not have a cell phone but is desperate to have one since "ALL her friends have one!" Friend 12's Mom is not computer or cell phone savvy and mentioned that she didn't even know how to check the messages her daughter sent or received. I offered to show her and she handed me the cell phone.

As I was showing her how to do it, I stumbled across several messages sent and exchanged from Friend 12 to Girl 12 (see above). At the time, Girl 12 was at my home, hainging out with Eldest. When Friend 12 asked what she was doing, Girl 12 replied that she was with Eldest and was "so bored". Friend 12 replied with "Ha Ha".

When I read that message, my heart just dropped. I was devestated. My poor daughter. Then, I got pissed. But, I had to keep it pulled together because Friend 12's Mom was also reading the same messages with me. SO - Friend 12's Mom told Girl 12's Mom ("B") what happened, which resulted in the meeting for drinks last night.

"B" met with me to tell me that Girl 12 wasn't really into hanging with Eldest on a one on one basis. They were, essentially, breaking up or "frumping" (friend dumping). I had already figured that out after reading that text message so this wasn't a surprise. We had a full conversation about it and I understand completely. The girls have very few things in common at this time in their lives. I am still upset about how this situation went down but luckily Eldest is unaware of the text message. "B" told her daughter that I had found the message. Girl 12 was upset because she didn't mean to hurt Eldest's feelings or to get me upset. Girl 12 is, for the most part, a very well mannered and nice girl.. but.. I have to wonder.. was she truly being mean or just being something else?

This situation reminded me of the Katie Couric piece written for NY Moms Blog about mean girls (and boys) online. Once something is placed on the internet or in a text message, you don't know where it will end up or who will be reading it.

I'm just so sad for my daughter right now.

Crappy Easter News Posted 8 months ago

I have been having an okay kind of weekend which was just made worse by the fact that a very special chocolate order for Youngest was cancelled just in time for Easter. Now, for those of you not in the know, Youngest has severe food allergies. She is anaphylactic to all dairy, egg, nuts and peanut products. So, what that means is every Easter, she does not have a bunny. Every Christmas, she doesn't have chocolate. Every birthday party, she doesn't get the cake and ice cream.

So, just imagine my joy when I found a place online that makes these allergy-safe treats. Immediately I placed on order for a bunny and a bunch of other candy and I spent about $30 on safe chocolate candy for Youngest. Now - I placed this order on 3/9 and I fully expected to have it delivered within 10 days. Turns out the company was completely overwhelemed and they had to shut down the online ordering on their website. I was a little nervous about that but I was assured that I would have my order.

This past Monday (3/17), I emailed the company to check the status of my order. The owner responded and once again said my order would ship by Wednesday and I would definitely have it Friday.

Guess what I didn't have by Friday? I called the company around 9am this morning and, once again, spoke with the owner who said she absolutely shipped it yesterday via Express Mail and I would have it today.

At 258pm today, I received an email from the owner. Seems that I was about 1 of 20 people who did not have their order completed. I was not going to get my order. Beyond pissed doesn't even begin to describe how angry I was.. and still am. If she had just emailed me and said she couldn't handle the order, I would have been annoyed but I would have had time to make more suitable arrangements. The fact she lied to me when I called her THIS MORNING makes me crazy. Like I wouldn't have figured out that I wasn't getting my order at 330pm when my mail shows up?

Thank goodness I had picked up some additional things this past week, just in case. Unfortunately, the "just in case" moments happen a lot.

I think I am more sad for me than for Olivia - I just wanted her to fit in.. to enjoy a chocolate bunny without worrying she was going to have an anaphylactic reaction. I am very disappointed with this company who has not, at the time of this post, issued me my refund. I will get my refund. I am not that worried about that.

I just really wanted that damn bunny.

I was thinking about making a very short video and uploading it - just for fun. I wonder what I could do.. hmmm....

Poof! It's Saturday? Really?

So much has happened that I really don't feel like can't write it all out

Eldest plays basketball and her team won first place (last)Saturday! I'd show the photo of the team but it's got too many identifying items in it - sorry guys. But trust me when I say, it's a GREAT picture!

Thank goodness that basketball is over!

Did I mention that now Eldest is playing volleyball? Oh, it started Monday night. ::sigh::

Youngest will be starting softball on the 29th.

Girl Scout cookies are in! I've got almost 200 boxes of cookies in my car/house.

Speaking of Girl Scouts, Eldest's troop will be running an event for third year Brownies in order to earn their Bronze Award.

I've worked a total of three days for the local school district. Jobs have been hard to come by as all of us subs are fighting for the jobs like frenzied sharks in a chum-filled ocean. Yeah - it's that hard to get 'em.

Youngest has lost yet another tooth. She has no top front teeth and now has a missing tooth on the bottom. In a few more weeks, she will be getting a Palatal Expander. I hope it's not too awful for her but we've got to fix that dang crossbite.

Husband and I got a new set of dishes. The pattern is Sedona by Pfaltzgraff. We had never registered for anything when we got married as we had been living together for about four years. So, when I mentioned to my Mom that Husband and I were looking to get a new set of dishes, she brought me a catalog of Pfaltzgraff patterns and I chose Sedona. Husband and I stopped at the Pfaltzgraff Outlet in Jackson and we found a box that held (4) four piece place settings for only $59.99! Normally, it retails between $71.99 - $89.99. Bargain! Mom bought them for us - thank you Mom! We also got a bunch of really nice bowls, serving platters and serving bowls.

Lots of rain - stop it already before I need an ark to get around.

It's laundry time. Hey, who says I don't have hot and exciting Saturday nights?

The girls and I have got church in the morning. Yes - you read that right - church. I figured when the children ask to go back to church that it might be a good idea to bring them back. We were welcomed back very warmly last week.. and I've got to say that it felt pretty nice.

Does anyone else love the movie version of The Producers? I just adore Nathan Lane.

Ok - I'm going to finish the laundry. Have a great night!
