Sometimes it takes stating what should be the obvious to bring into focus that it just may not be that obvious! Today's verses are like that.

Proverbs 16: 11 - 12
Honest scales and balances are from the Lord
all the weights in the bag are of His making

Kings detest wrongdoing
for a throne is established through righteousness

Should not we all be using honest scales and balances? Of course - but the snag here is that I think it doesn't end with the actual weighing of goods - I think that the honest scales includes giving an honest days' effort at work, and in the myriad other opportunities we have every day to 'shave off the corners' - it is the way of the world, and it can be such an easy trap to fall into. So a reminder is good, to bring the fact back into focus, and for me to take a harder look at my behavior!

The second verse I choose to take as talking about the King being God - and His rule over the entire universe has already been established - as I believe He created it all - and it is His choice as to what thrones will be established. The cool thing is that He has given us the instruction book, so that we can live in His will, and be certain of the reward He promises. Course making that choice does not mean things will therefore be easy - more likely to be harder - but something worth having is worth fighting for!
