Hello friends! I need some advice!
I have always been fascinated with the stars -- I'm sure alot of us are -- and I want to take some pictures of them.
I cannot, for the life of me, get a good shot! It's just too dark, and I don't know what kind of settings or equipment I need. :/ I've been using a digital camera -- does film do better?
You'll need to take your camera out of it's auto mode and use the manual controls to extend the "shutter open" time.
You should also experiment with the aperture setting bearing in mind that a low aperture number means that more light is getting to the cameras sensor.
You may also want to experiment with the ISO setting bearing in mind that a high ISO setting makes the sensor more sensitive to light, but also more noisy.
You will definitely need a tripod or similar stable platform to keep the camera as still as possible.
I hope this is a helpful start.
Have a look at this astrophotography guide by Canon.

Cheers, Jim.
Ah, very helpful! Thanks Jim!
The Canon pages was unfortunately closed the 24th of this month, so I don't know what they recommended. However, in a forum I read that digital cameras can have a problem showing lots of noise when taking Astronomy photos which are really photos of something completely black.
